肝心な結果を書き漏らしました。

Vine側のmenu.lstを編集して、rebootし、GentooのGRUBからVineを選択すると、VineのGRUBは起動せず、読み込みが始まります。

ただ、結局、以下のエラーが出てログイン画面には辿りつけませんでした。

switchroot: mount failed: No such file or directory
Kernel panic -not syncing : Attempted to kill init!

 以上です。
